Marko Pop Ristov graduated from the Royal College of Music (London) in 2009. He obtained his Master's degree in Chamber Music from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and made his Barbican debut in 2012. At the age of 16, he was invited and awarded a scholarship to study with Professor Pavel Vernikov at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole in Florence, Italy. He has received numerous first prizes at various international competitions, including Performing Australian Music (London, 2008), Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (Italy, 2003), and Petar Konjović (Yugoslavia, 2001). He has performed as a soloist with the Kensington Sinfonia (UK), Orchestra dei Ragazzi (Italy), the Bitola Chamber Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Macedonia.
During his time in London, he was mentored and attended seminars led by eminent musicians and artists from the Bedke Quartet, Chilingarian Quartet, Domus Quartet, Belcea Quartet, Florestan Trio, and many others.
With his Ristov Quartet, Marko has performed at festivals and venues across Europe, including the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Macedonia, Kosovo, and Serbia. In 2010, the quartet was invited to perform alongside the Rombach Piano Trio in P. Dusapin's work on the BBC Proms stage. Since moving to New Zealand in 2013, Marko has been a regular performer with the APO (Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra) and ACO (Auckland Chamber Orchestra), and also serves as leader of the second violins with the Bach Musica orchestra. Marko was a founding member of the Villani Piano Quartet, with whom he performed over 30 concerts throughout New Zealand from 2016 to 2019.
In 2019, Marko formed the Orion Piano Trio, with whom he completed a European tour of 7 concerts that same year. Following the successful concerts, in 2020 the trio was invited for two tours totaling 54 concerts in China and Europe, which were unfortunately cancelled due to the global health crisis.
In 2021, Marko received a full scholarship for doctoral studies at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. In 2022, he had the honor of serving as concertmaster on the annual tour of the NBO (No Borders Orchestra). He also toured New Zealand with the Orion Piano Trio and with the CSO (Christchurch Symphony Orchestra).
With the newly formed Velrko Ensemble, Marko released his first album featuring duets for violin and cello by R. Glière in 2021. In June 2023, the ensemble completed a concert tour in Italy, followed by the release of their second album featuring the Piano Trio in B major by J. Brahms.
